What you need to know about lash extensions...
Lash extensions can give you long, beautiful, yet natural looking eyelashes 24 hours a day, seven days a week without the hassles of mascara. Unlike the old fake eyelash strips which were applied to the eyelid, the new semi-permanent eyelash extensions are applied directly to the individual eyelashes. Eyelash extensions have a natural look and feel. They provide length and thickness to a person’s natural eyelashes.
“Clients report that they just feel more beautiful when wearing eyelash extensions,” advises Jo Mousselli, RN, President of Xtreme Lashes. “The lash extensions feel weightless and provide a beautiful, lush appearance.”
Eyelash extensions are considered “semi-permanent,” as they can remain in place for the natural cycle of the eyelash itself. A person’s natural eyelash typically falls out every 60 to 90 days and is naturally replaced with the growth of a new eyelash. Because of this natural cycle, it is usually necessary to get touch-ups to fill in every two to four weeks. The application of a full set of eyelash extensions typically takes between one and three hours, depending on the skill level of the technician and how many extensions are desired. The application procedure is painless. Clients recline comfortably with their eyes closed during the entire procedure. Most clients go to sleep during the procedure. Xtreme lashes feel weightless and provide a beautiful, lush appearance.
The eyelash extensions are water resistant. Wearers may swim, exercise and shower worry free. Eyelash extensions do not require a lifestyle change for active people. The cost of an application varies throughout the country, but usually is between $200 and $700. Touch-ups are usually done for a fraction of this, depending on how many lash extensions need to be added. Eyelash extensions are great for special occasions or for everyday wear.
What Are Xtreme Lashes?
Xtreme Lashes™ is a revolutionary new product that lengthens and thickens eyelashes. Xtreme Lashes™ are single strands of synthetic eyelashes that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash. They are applied to individual eyelashes, one lash at a time, for a natural, elegant and luscious look. Xtreme Lashes™ is perfect for special occasions as well as for every day wear.
How long do Xtreme Lashes Last?
When applied properly, semi-permanent Xtreme Lashes™ can last up to 2 months, depending on the natural growth cycle of your eyelashes and the expertise of the technician applying the eyelash extensions. You will probably want touch-ups every two to four weeks. Xtreme Lashes™ HP-3 High Performance Bonding Agent is specially formulated with a unique waterproof bonding agent to last. Imitation glues may not last as long because of an inferior bonding strength. You can also purchase our specially formulated Long Life Coating to prolong the life of the Xtreme Lashes™.
Can I swim, shower, exercise, or visit a spa while wearing Xtreme Lashes?
Yes. Our specially formulated bonding agent allows you to shower, swim, exercise, sleep and spa worry-free while wearing Xtreme Lashes™. You can enjoy these lashes with little need to adjust your lifestyle. Please do not swim or spa for 48 hours after the procedure to allow the bonding agent to fully cure. After this, you can swim and spa - worry free.
Can I apply Xtreme Lashes to my own eyelashes?
No. Only a trained professional will be able to safely apply Xtreme Lashes™. Unprofessional application or self-application may cause eye injury or clumpy, unnatural looking lashes. Xtreme Lashes™ are applied one lash at a time to your individual natural eyelashes to achieve long, thick and natural looking eyelashes. The procedure involves bonding the synthetic extension to your own natural eyelashes.
How often should I get touch-ups?
We recommend getting a touch up every two to four weeks. A natural eyelash falls off every 60 to 90 days on average due to the natural growth cycle and is naturally replaced with the growth of a new eyelash. At any given moment, each of your natural eyelashes is at a different stage of its life cycle. A touch up is needed to replenish the lashes that have completed their life cycle. Touch ups generally take a short time and are relatively inexpensive.
Can I apply mascara to Xtreme Lashes?
One of the main advantages of Xtreme Lashes™ is never needing mascara again. However, if you must have the mascara look ONLY WATER BASED MASCARA CAN BE USED. You can purchase our specially formulated Xtreme Lashes™ mascara from Atlanta Lashes. DO NOT USE OIL-BASED OR WATERPROOF MASCARA. Waterproof mascara along with any type of oil-based mascara will dissolve the bonding agent and cause the Xtreme Lashes™ to fall off.
How do I take care of Xtreme Lashes™?
Your new Xtreme Lashes™ are long, thick and beautiful! Once applied, they last up to 2 months. Best of all, they are easy to maintain. Your Xtreme Lashes Professional will give you a detailed easy care maintenance instruction manual following your procedure. To maintain this look and extend the life of your lashes, follow these easy care instructions:
Can you describe the application process?
You will be comfortably reclined with your eyes closed while Xtreme Lashes™ are applied individually to your natural eyelashes; it generally takes between 60 to 120 minutes to apply one set of Xtreme Lashes™. The procedure is so relaxing and comfortable that many clients fall asleep.
Who uses Eyelash Extensions?
Hollywood has long since enjoyed extending their beauty with Eyelash Extensions. Models, dancers, actors and pageant contestants have been using eyelash extensions for years. Now, you can have them too. Because they look so real, anyone could be wearing them and you would never know! Be the first in your area to wear Xtreme Lashes™.
Is the product FDA approved? Is it safe?
Currently the FDA is not regulating eyelash extensions because the eyelash extensions are applied to the natural eyelash hairs and do not touch the skin. The primary ingredient in our HP-3 glue is the same ingredient used by plastic surgeons in the U.S. for suture-less wound closure. The application process is pain-free and relaxing. In fact, many clients fall asleep during the procedure.
Your Natural lashes...How to damage them
Mascaras Mechanical Curlers
Often thought of as the most convenient and user friendly of options to enhance eyelashes, mascaras do have some downfalls:
Curling your eyelashes is typically one of the quickest ways to get instant uplift. These popular devices raise several concerns worth noting:
• Skin can easily get caught in the clamping device, causing pain, pinching or tugging on the eyelid.
• The use of mechanical eyelash curlers can damage the lashes, potentially leaving them broken or distorted.
• Repeated breakage caused by the use of mechanical curlers can actually permanently stunt the growth of lashes.
False Strip Lashes
Traditional false lashes are made up of numerous human or synthetic eyelashes attached together in one pre-made strip. A full set is placed (via a special adhesive applied to the strip of false eyelashes) against your upper lash line on the skin, as close as possible to your actual lashes, but not on your real lashes (which indeed is as tricky to do as it sounds).
Readily available and often used by makeup artists for their dramatic effect, there are many disadvantages associated with the wearing of strip lashes:
• Visually, false lash strips tend to look, well… false. They are often glaringly phony and stiff in appearance, proclaiming to all that that the wearer’s lashes are, quite obviously, not real.
• The temporary adhesive used can come loose due to perspiration from heat, exercising, dancing or doing any strenuous activity, creating a potentially embarrassing situation.
• The weight of an entire strip of lashes added to the eye can feel heavy and weary the lid.
• False lash adhesive, which is attached directly to the skin, is difficult to remove and can irritate the eye and tear ducts during both application and removal.
• Contact lens wearers should avoid strip lashes as the temporary adhesive used will destroy their lenses should it come in contact with them at any time.
• Because the adhesive is applied to the skin, there is the possibility of an allergic reaction and an increased risk of infection.
• If used frequently, strip lashes can cause irreparable damage to the natural lashes and cause them to fall out prematurely.
• Long-term use can lead to permanent lash baldness caused by hair follicle blockage or even infections.
• Clients should never sleep in false eyelashes as there is a danger that the glands in your eyelids may become blocked and cause an infection.
• Because they cannot be worn while sleeping, false lashes must be removed and reapplied each day.
• Removing false eyelashes must be done very carefully. Natural lashes can be pulled out by the root along with the false strip during removal. Repeatedly pulling the same lashes out by the root can eventually prevent their re-growth permanently.
Flares or Lash Clusters
Cluster lashes, or flares, typically consist of groups of 5-8 blunt-end lashes knotted together in a bunch. These clusters add instant fullness because of their multi-lash flare and they tend to be smaller and shorter than strips. They can be applied either directly to the skin (between natural lashes) or on top of a grouping of existing lashes. They are more natural in appearance than strips however they do carry many of the same concerns (the same skin adhesives are used when attaching to the eyelid) as well as a few additional ones:
• If you look closely you can see how flares and individual lashes are not tapered but are blunt at the end. This creates a stiff, abnormal appearance to the lashes.
• Lash clusters that are adhered to the natural lashes need to be placed on top of several natural lashes at once because their large size and weight cannot be supported by a single lash.
• Natural lashes grow at different rates. When they are glued together to support flares and left in place for a period of time, the flares will cause faster growing natural lashes to prematurely pull out slower growing lashes from the root because they are adhered together. This can result in permanent damage and lash baldness if done repeatedly.
• If flares are attached to the skin, the adhesives can damage the follicle, irritate the eye and increase the risk of infections.
• When applied to the skin, cluster eyelashes will last no more than a week at most.
Individuals (Sometimes incorrectly portrayed as eyelash extensions)
‘Individuals’ are synthetic lashes that are stacked one on top of the other and attached at the base, often with a knot to allow for fast and easy adhesion. Typically there are three lashes in each grouping with the longest on the bottom and the shortest on the top attached together. Like flares, individuals can be attached to either the skin, if they are knotted, or the natural lashes.
• Individuals have the same concerns as clusters or flares (see above) with regards to weight when applied to the lashes and skin irritation when applied directly to the eyelid.
Questions have been raised on occasion in the media regarding the effects of eyelash extensions on natural lashes. Unfortunately many of the reports have not included complete facts and in depth information.
PROPERLY APPLIED eyelash extensions do not cause damage to natural lashes.
Situations where damage has or can be done to the natural lashes are typically caused by one of the following unfortunate scenarios:1. UNQUALIFIED professionals applying semi-permanent eyelash extensions. Xtreme Lashes™ believes it is irresponsible to sell eyelash extension products without requiring training. The application process, which requires the use of a strong bonding and long lasting adhesive and sharp tweezers near the eye area, is very meticulous. Only under the supervision of a well qualified Certified Trainer can a student learn how to properly position their hands, pick up the lash extension, isolate a single natural lash, and apply the lash extension safely and beautifully. In fact, a qualified trainer is trained to work with each individual’s specific needs to help him or her overcome weaknesses and utilize strengths. Even proper posture and table height is assessed.
Our trained Lash Stylists often see the work of an unqualified professional first hand and must repair the damage that has been done to the client. .2) CHEAP WORK. Everyone wants a discount and yes, you can get your lashes done for $100 or $150 for a full set. But would you really want to? At this price, technicians have to speed through the procedure to maximize their time. This leads to poor quality work or short cuts.
2. FLARES AND ‘INDIVIDUAL’ LASHES applied as shortcuts. Flares, Clusters and ‘Individuals’ consist of attached groups of 3-8 blunt-end lashes, often with a knot at the end. These types of lash enhancements are designed to be applied to the skin using temporary lash adhesive for short term wearing. It has become known that some technicians are taking these lash groups and using a semi-permanent eyelash extension adhesive to adhere flares and individuals directly to natural lashes. Of course applying lashes in bundles like this will take significantly less time to apply to achieve a full look than a single lash by lash application, however this is an unhealthy method for natural lashes. These bundled lashes are far too heavy for a single natural lash to support. If applied to one natural lash they can break the natural lash and inhibit future re-growth. Alternately, if they are applied to multiple natural lashes to properly support their heavy weight, multiple natural lashes will be adhered together. Since natural lashes grow at different rates the flares will cause faster growing natural lashes to prematurely pull out slower growing lashes from the root because they are bonded together. This can result in permanent damage and lash baldness if done repeatedly.4. CARELESS ADHESION - leading to 3-4 human lashes being clumped together. Again, this comes down to training and quality. Lashes applied properly should be adhered one by one. One small synthetic lash is attached to one natural lash. If several natural lashes are adhered together because the technician has not been trained to isolate a single natural lash or is being too quick or too careless to do so, it can cause pain and, in the end, damage to the natural lashes. The pain will be felt a day or two after application as a faster growing natural lash begins to pull out a slower growing natural lash it is adhered to. While not significant pain (it can be equated to that of a small pin pricking sensation along the lash line) it is a sign that something is not correct with the application. Properly applied eyelash extensions should be seen but not felt. There should be no discomfort during or after application. Both of the examples demonstrated in the photos above show the effect of many lashes being adhered together however it can be much more subtle in appearance than these pictures show. Two single lashes adhered together may not be initially visible to you but a good technician will notice. A trained professional will not only isolate a single lash as they apply but constantly check throughout the application to ensure that no lashes are adhering together as they dry.
A qualified, professionally trained, and highly skilled Xtreme Lashes™ Lash Stylist will take great care in the application, and provide great results.
